Learning to Talk: Speech and Sound Development 2 - 6 years.

Have you ever wondered when your child should be able to say their sounds correctly? Is your child 4 years old and still saying “tat” for cat? Is this something you should be concerned about?

That's where an up to date and experienced Speech Pathologist comes into things!

Recent research out of Australia by Sharynne McLeod and Kathryn Crowe (2018) has revised our profession's understanding of when children should develop sounds. We call these 'sound norms'. This study (on monolingual children) identified that many sounds should be developed sooner than previously expected!

You can find these sound norms on these easy to read and understand FREE downloadable handouts.

If in doubt or if you are concerned about this, please contact Kids of Melbourne Speech Pathology for a thorough assessment of your child's speech development!
